Accreditations and Standards

Sterile compounding in this country runs on one rulebook, General Chapter <797> of the United States Pharmacopeia[4]. Depending on what is being made, the finished preparation is then tested for sterility under USP <71>[5] and for bacterial endotoxins under USP <85>[6]. Every pharmacy on this page owes those standards already. What follows is what this one has added on top.

State pharmacy license
The home state board of pharmacy has issued a license. Every pharmacy in the country needs one to open its doors, so treat this as the floor rather than a distinction.
LegitScript
LegitScript's Healthcare Merchant certification. An outside firm checks the pharmacy's licensure, whether it insists on a prescription, and how it advertises. Most ad platforms refuse to sell placement without it, so it doubles as a commercial gate.
PCAB
An audit by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board, which ACHC operates. The pharmacy applies for it; nothing obliges it to. Assessors measure sterile and non-sterile compounding against national quality and safety standards, and a pharmacy that drops the accreditation still keeps its license.

What It Compounds

Whether any pharmacy may compound semaglutide or tirzepatide at all turns on where the reference product sits on the FDA Drug Shortage List. When a drug comes off that list the door closes, and it has closed before[7].

What Regulators Have on File

Our records hold no public FDA enforcement action and no recall against Shields Pharmacy. Read that as the edge of what we found rather than as a clearance. Enforcement arrives after the fact, so check with the FDA, and with your own state board, yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here is what we can and cannot confirm. Shields Pharmacy operates as a 503A compounding pharmacy out of Dunedin, FL. PCAB accreditation sits on the record, which is an audit a compounding pharmacy volunteers for rather than one it owes anyone. No recent public FDA enforcement action has reached our records, and that is not the same as none existing. Enforcement history moves, so put the current standing to your state board of pharmacy before you fill anything.
Shields Pharmacy works out of Dunedin, FL. It holds licenses to ship into 50 US states.
Alongside its other compounded preparations, Shields Pharmacy makes compounded semaglutide and compounded tirzepatide. Being a 503A pharmacy, it compounds only against a prescription written for one named patient, with the state board of pharmacy watching.
Two things separate them: who inspects, and how much may be made at once. A 503B outsourcing facility registers with the FDA itself, works to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), submits to FDA inspection, and may make compounded medication in batches with no named patient attached. A 503A pharmacy cannot do that. It fills a prescription written for one patient, answers mainly to its state board of pharmacy, and works to the USP <797> standard for sterile compounding. Neither route produces an FDA-approved drug.
