One person runs this register. A handful of contractors work on it alongside their own jobs. There is no newsroom, no sales floor and no investor, and the register is the way it is because of that: narrow, slow to publish, and unwilling to print a figure nobody checked.
Most of the work is unglamorous. Someone reads an FDA warning letter end to end and writes down what it actually alleges. Someone walks a seller’s intake until the price appears, screenshots it, and records the date. Someone reads a study and finds that the paper does not say what the press release said. If that sounds tedious rather than exciting, you may be the right person.
The one role that is genuinely open
Clinical reviewer · freelance, paid per article
We publish drug and safety material without a clinician having read it, and we say so on every page that carries it. That is honest but it is not good enough. We want an MD, PharmD, NP, RN or RD with obesity medicine, endocrinology or pharmacy experience to read what we write before it goes out, and to tell us when we have overstated something.
It is asynchronous, paid per article, and sized to sit beside a working clinical practice. Filling it changes the line at the top of every clinical article from “Editorially reviewed (not clinically reviewed)” to your name and credentials, linked to your contributor page. You would be putting your license behind it, so you get a veto, and we will not publish over your objection.
Write to us with the subject line “Clinical reviewer”. Tell us your credentials, the states you are licensed in, and one claim you have seen a weight-loss site make that you would not have let through.
Nothing else is open, and here is what happens if you write anyway
There are no salaried positions. What exists is a short list of people we call when a piece of work needs doing, and the list is how everyone currently contributing got here. Three kinds of note tend to lead somewhere:
- You can read a regulatory document. Enforcement actions, state pharmacy board minutes, 503B registration records, court filings. The skill is telling the difference between what a document alleges and what it establishes.
- You can price a market that hides its prices. Sellers quote a monthly figure that is not monthly, or a promotional rate that lapses. Finding the standing price usually means getting past an intake form and reading the checkout.
- You build things that watch for change. Price capture, diffing, structured data. TypeScript and Python. The interesting problems here are about knowing when a number quietly moved, not about scale.
What working here is actually like
Remote, asynchronous, no meetings. Engagements are scoped with a deliverable and a fee agreed up front. You will be asked for the source of every number you hand in, and a draft that cites a press release instead of the underlying paper comes back.
One rule matters more than the rest. Some of the sellers in this register pay us commission when a reader signs up, and those relationships can affect the order things appear in. They do not touch a score, a finding, or whether something damaging gets published. If you are ever asked to soften a review because of who is paying, the answer is no, and you should tell the founder to their face.
