Each of Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic and Mounjaro holds its own separate FDA approval under its own NDA number[4][5]. Published Phase 3 efficacy for semaglutide at 2.4 mg (~14.9% mean weight loss across 68 weeks) comes from STEP 1[6]; those for tirzepatide (~20.9% at the 15 mg dose over 72 weeks) come from SURMOUNT-1[7]. In 2025 the SURMOUNT-5 head-to-head set the two against each other[8].

How much of an anti-obesity medication is covered varies widely between state Medicaid programs and between commercial plans[9][10]. Under IRS Publication 502, compounded GLP-1s and brand-name ones alike are generally FSA/HSA eligible where a prescription exists[11].
